PAULINE HUYNH

Welp

Just told my parents that the chances of me taking a gap year are pretty much 80+% because

  • I need would have to take my MCAT in April or so, which means missing out on a month of actually learning the material and the suggested 300 hours of applied studying
  • If I take it later, I would have an incomplete medical school application, which blows because it’s mosty rolling admission
  • I have minimal extracurriculars, and I don’t like the idea of cramming in volunteer hours (once I find them) for the sake of putting down a number on my application
  • I cannot solidly argue why I am choosing to pursue medicine in the first place. “Because that’s what my parents have wanted me to be since I was little…”
  • I’m really interested in the scribe position, which I think would give me a more solid understanding of what it’s like to work 12-hour shifts in a hospital with blood and sick people everywhere; it makes me so sad to know that the programs require a year of commitment (the rare time I regret picking a school far from home).

My dad nearly had a heart attack LOL.

But I think a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Thinking about summer is depressing.

Because it means thinking about when school ends. Which means thinking about finals. Which means thinking about grades. My grades this semester aren’t up to
