PAULINE HUYNH

I hate driving.

Honestly, I will never understand how driving a car is easier than riding a bike.

When I ride a bike, I am one hundred percent in control. If I let go of the pedals, the bike stops. Itdoes not move on its own. There is no need to fear that I can still hit something without stepping on anything. There is no fear that I will accidentally step on the gas when I meant to step on the brakes.

When I ride a bike, I can see all around me. I know exactly how wide to turn left or right, exactly how far I am from the curb, and exactly when I’m right before the white line. There is no guessing game that is involved with driving a car.

When I ride a bike, I know that any mistakes or mishaps will result in relatively minor consequences. Accidents won’t cost me up to thousands of dollars in damage.

When I ride a bike, I only need one lesson. To keep pedaling. Not pedaling fast enough means losing balance, which means stopping. There’s no separate lesson for turning, no separate lesson for parking, no separate lesson for parallel parking, no separate lesson for anything else.

Really, with all the advantages biking has over parking, why do we need cars?

Welp, Winter Break is over.

This one flew by way too fast. I don’t think I’ve ever been so…disgruntled about coming back. I feel that there should be this excitement
