Finally taking a rest stop on the road of life to smell some flowers

But not roses. Because they are cliche. And because my love life is nonexistent.

I haven’t really had the time to really reflect and write about what’s happened in the past…year or so? It’s been a while.

I’ll start with the biggest change: being an RA was a challenging, yet amazingly rewarding experience. I felt really nervous about being placed in upperclassman apartments, but I think it’s a good “beginner RA” setting. The residents aren’t so demanding, and it was easier for me to get used to the swing of things. Duty was definitely…interesting. The residents were more annoyed with RAs (since they’ve heard it all before…), and were a bit more aggressive. There were a few residents that I didn’t have a chance to really know, and another handful that I’ve become close friends with. I’ve definitely grown a lot from this experience, and I can’t wait for another year on the job!

This coming year will be very interesting…HELLO, party dorm?! Dat Greek life population tho.

I spent pretty much my entire summer studying for the MCAT aslfksjdl;kj uggggggggh. I’ve never had to study so long and so hard for a single test. Pretty much 50+ hours of studying per week, every week. I nearly broke down a couple times, and definitely burned out from taking practice tests daily for a month. Hopefully all the hard work will pay off?! I’ll find out in about a month.

So the past week has been my only “true” summer vacation, and I happily spent it watching a bunch of Hong Kong TVB dramas HEEHEE. It felt sooooooooo good to satisfy that craving I’ve postponed for so long.

I’ll spending the next 2-3 weeks at RA training (whoop dee doo~). Hopefully it will be more entertaining this time around. I’m excited to meet my new staff! Let’s do this!

Hi there, I'm

Oh, 2021.

In this post, I recap how 2021 went. In short, it was a transformative year personally and professionally. I matched into the specialty of my dreams, found a home in a residency program so well suited to my goals, and am inspired to push myself every day. At the same time, it was during this year that I found myself navigating both a “public” professional identity and a personal one. I’ve struggled on how to maintain this blog in a way that felt authentic to me and remained sensitive to my professional trajectory. While those hesitations still persist today—with more patient stories and moments of imposter syndrome than ever before—2021 was a transformative year, and one that deserved as full a recap as I can comfortably share.
