Just told my parents that the chances of me taking a gap year are pretty much 80+% because
- I need would have to take my MCAT in April or so, which means missing out on a month of actually learning the material and the suggested 300 hours of applied studying
- If I take it later, I would have an incomplete medical school application, which blows because it’s mosty rolling admission
- I have minimal extracurriculars, and I don’t like the idea of cramming in volunteer hours (once I find them) for the sake of putting down a number on my application
- I cannot solidly argue why I am choosing to pursue medicine in the first place. “Because that’s what my parents have wanted me to be since I was little…”
- I’m really interested in the scribe position, which I think would give me a more solid understanding of what it’s like to work 12-hour shifts in a hospital with blood and sick people everywhere; it makes me so sad to know that the programs require a year of commitment (the rare time I regret picking a school far from home).
My dad nearly had a heart attack LOL.
But I think a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
